Thyme Fries began as an appreciation for food and cooking…and, well, bad food puns. It’s since evolved into a platform highlighting the entrepreneurs and innovators fighting to transform and improve the future of our food system. We share stories, ideas and interviews from those at the intersection of food sustainability, entrepreneurship, policy, and innovation. Through that lens, we hope to illuminate why this transformation is important, the strategies behind its success, and how we all can participate.
Wes Melville is a consultant and writer based in Washington, DC. In addition to his work with Thyme Fries, he consults with food startups and nonprofits assisting with strategic planning, marketing and go-to-market strategy, market research and analysis, and content strategy and development. He received his MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler, where he focused on sustainability strategy. He also holds a graduate certificate in Sino-US Relations from the Nanjing-Hopkins Center in Nanjing, China.
As part of his day job, Wes is a management consultant to federal government clients, advising on issues related to strategic planning and business process improvement efforts. He helps clients understand current strategic opportunities and threats, and develops solutions to implement and track performance against. Prior to that, he managed growth and customer acquisition for a startup online platform specializing in economic development financing, where he grew the customer base fourfold.
Before getting his MBA, Wes spent much of his twenties living and working abroad in China. Based in Shanghai, he worked as a brand strategy consultant for North American and Chinese brands focused on the fast-growing sports market in China. During his time in China, Wes learned Mandarin, his limits on the basketball court, and that he has a deep appreciation for hot pot.
